The Black Youth Leadership Project, Inc. in cooperation with the California Legislative Black Caucus, is hosting a one-day Political Debate on December 5, 2003 in an effort to continue the BYLP’s purpose of exposing African American students to all avenues of the politicalspectrum.
Young adults need a public forum for sharing their experiences, identifying their common concerns, and exploring the issues that affect their lives. Black Youth Leadership Projects Fall debate provides a public forum for positive self-expression. The debate format requires the youth to conduct valuable research to substantiate his or her position and in doing so helps to cultivate critical thinking and effective problem solving. The oral competition will assist the students in becoming more effective communicators, build self-confidence and self-esteem.
