A Huge Loss to The Berkeley High Community

[Monday Feb 5.07 ¬ 2:32 PM]

Recovering From a Huge Loss
Denise Brown who was not only the dean of Berkeley High but also a teacher passed away last Monday night after complications with her knee surgery. After the operation Ms. Brown suffered a blood clot and passed away shortly after the complication. She was beloved by many students as a teacher who would treat each individual with the love and respect she would give to her own children. As well as being beloved by students she was also well respected by many of her fellow Berkeley High teachers who still are in shock from the awful news. Many Berkeley High teachers took an off day to not only mourn the death of Ms. Brown but also to symbolize what her friendship and respect meant to them. In addition to taking on the role of Dean, Ms. Brown was the teacher for African dance and was loved by all her students.
Ms. Brown’s favorite color was purple and today many students and teachers at Berkeley High wore articles of purple clothing as a way to honor her. In addition there was a memorial set up in the courtyard with pictures and other extra information about Ms. Brown and her life accomplishments. If you didn’t see many people wearing purple today you probably missed the memorial because there was a constant throng of people in purple clothing at the memorial all throughout lunch. If you weren’t able to drop by I would encourage anybody who can to visit it after school to do so in order to pay respects to a fabulous teacher and a wonderful human being. She will be missed greatly by me and my condolences go out to the rest of her family.

Josh
