Speak and Be Heard

[Monday Jun 2.03 ¬ 11:47 PM]

So we’ve got something new.

Behold, the BerkeleyHigh.org forum, a modern wonder of discourse and babble.

For those unfamiliar, the concept of an online forum or discussion board is simple: There’s a collection of discussion topics, started by the users, usually centered around a certain theme. Anybody can begin a new subject for a “thread” (a particular train of discussion), whereupon other users will read it, ponder, and post replies. These “posts” can then be read by other users, prompting further replies, and an entire debate can ensue, with everybody who wants to chipping in their thoughts.

Our forum is meant to focus on Berkeley High (of course), but also general issues related to education, teens, and essentially, whatever you want. If some student wants to discuss his shoelaces or the latest movie by some French guy, we don’t mind, so long as it stays within reasonable limits of sanity.

Tending to the forum, along with myself, will be Tal Atid, an avid BHS alumni and general rabblerouser.

To get started, go to the forum and click the Register button in the top navigation block. Skim the bogus disclaimer and click one of the agreement links, then fill in whatever information suits you on the next page (you “Profile” is a page of data about you that other forum-goers will be able to read). Username is the name you’ll be identified by on the forum; you can use your real name, an online psuedonym, or whatever you please. Ignore anything you don’t understand. Click Submit when done.

If all goes well, your forum account will be created, and you’ll next want to click Log In (right beneath Register). Punch in your username and password, click Log In, and you’re good to go.

You’re now looking at the list of forums. The overall “forum” is broke up into several sub-forums for different areas of conversation; at the moment, there’s only a few, and most of your posts will go into the first two. The Announcements forum is locked, and is only meant for forum-related news posts by the administrators.

If you step in right now, the forum will be pretty empty, since… well, since it’s new. So post something. Talk about your day, your most hated teacher, complain, compliment, rant, rave, whatever. The floor is yours.

Brandon
