The Switches, Igor!
[Thursday Sep 4.03 ¬ 7:51 PM]Full of lies I sometimes am, but this time, simple facts conspired to make a fool of me.
Undoubtedly any previous readers will remember last year’s parting post, a reminiscent monologue that ended by promising that the site — though hibernating for the summer — would be ready and active when the school year resumed.
Full of lies indeed. In actuality, not long before the end of summer, a series of unfortunate events brought the entire site to a screeching halt. I was still here, the site was still here, but the berkeleyhigh.org domain name had been stolen from under my nose by a bottom-scraping harvester, and consequently, there was no way to get to the site. No easy solutions except to sort out the situation piece by piece, which I did and is done — but which was responsible for the launch missing the first day of school.
Nothing to be done for it. Suffice to say that we’re here now, and don’t plan to leave any time soon.
A brief rundown on the state of the site:
- The Bell Schedule has been changed to reflect the minor, one-minute variation in times from last year. (Fun Fact: If you take a look at the school’s official, printed version of the schedule, you may notice that lunch starts at the same time as last year (11:32) and ends at the same time (12:12), yet somehow is now 55 minutes instead of 40. Truly a remarkable feat. Not only did the administration manage to discover new time, they actually managed to mess up basic arithmetic that they didn’t even need.)
- The Site Overview, our roadmap, has been updated to list all of the new sections that cropped up in the middle of last year.
- Various sections, such as the About Us page and FAQ, have been updated, changed, or rewritten. It’s probably nothing that will interest you if you’ve already read them; if you haven’t, it may be time.
- The Events page has been updated to the best of my ability for the new year’s official dates — holidays and so forth. This section STILL NEEDS A MAINTAINER. This means that if you want to lend a hand and have a few minutes of spare time, please get in touch with me at this address. It’s not difficult nor especially time-consuming, but it’s something I cannot do myself. Please. Think of the kittens.
- The Contact page has also been updated to the best of my ability, using the information I’ve been able to lay my hands on. Be warned that it is still very outdated; there are a huge number of people there that are simply no longer with the school, and the school has some new ones that aren’t yet on listed. I’m waiting on the student organizers to be distributed, which usually have some good info, but as always, the bulk of the contact data can only be kept current with public information. So if you see a name on the list that you know for a fact left the school last year, let me know. And if you went to a class on the first day and the teacher gave you his phone number or email address, I’d love to have that as well. That’s simply the only way to get in touch with many of the faculty.
- The Forum is still wholly functional, and awaits use.
- I am actually unsure regarding the accuracy of the current Graduation Requirements — I have no idea if anything has changed in the last two years. If you see something outdated, drop me a line.
- New content, such as more Features, new resources, and other such goodies, may make an appearance at a later date. Watch this space.
I’ll leave off for now with the basic yes-we’re-alive information. Don’t worry — Berkeley-High-sucks ranting is still readily available — but I’ll wait to unleash the vitriol until the next volley.
Enjoy the school year.
