How it Went
[Tuesday Feb 8.05 ¬ 11:52 PM]Nothing like full disclosure. The administration has sent out an announcement on the e-tree confirming the story we announced a few days ago. denise brown tells it this way:
BHS Families, Teachers and Staff,
This note is to inform you about an incident that happened on 2/3/05. A student in Madalyn Theodore's class was found to be in possession of a gun. When the student went into her backpack to get something, the gun was revealed. Other students told Ms. Theodore who immediately got a Safety Officer. The student who was in possession of the gun was extremely upset because she had forgotten that she had the gun in her backpack. She says, and her father confirmed with me, that he had given her the gun for safekeeping. She also thought she had emptied the chamber of the gun, the bullets were found loose in her backpack, but there was one bullet lodged in the chamber. Safety Officer Craig White immediately apprehended the weapon, took it away safely and disarmed it.
Needless to say this was quite a shock and scare to us all. I must commend the quick work of the students who saw the gun, Madalyn Theodore and the Safety Officers, especially Craig White, Billy Keys and James Tompkins. They quickly got the situation under control and quickly detained the student so she was away from the BHS population. The student was arrested and further disciplinary action will be taken.
What was so helpful in this this situation was that the students that saw the gun immediately notified the teacher. This way the teacher was able to immediately get a Safety Officer to avoid anyone being hurt or harmed. The students in this case acted maturely and consciously by telling the teacher right away. I have called the students to let them know how much I appreciated their quick action in this matter.
I am thankful that this all ended safely. Thank you all for the work that you do in helping to keep this campus a safe and sane place.

[Monday Feb 7.05 ¬ 11:21 PM]There is no school on Friday. Don’t show up, or you’ll be sorry.
However—as Brandon announced a while ago—there is ITPs on Friday (and Saturday and the Friday and Saturday following).
For those of you who don’t know, ITPs is Independent Theater Projects—a performance of three one-act plays. It’s generally a very very good show, and I highly recommend you go see it.
The times are February 11th, 12th, 18th, and 19th at 8:00 PM each night. The location is The Hillside Club, 2286 Cedar Street. It’ll cost you $5 if you’re a student and $10 if you’re not.
Check it out.

The details are vague and I can’t tell you how accurate the following information is. The school hasn’t made any official announcement regarding this.
The story that I heard goes like this:
During class last week, a girl was showing her classmates something inside of her backpack. After a time one of the students in the class went up to the teacher and told her that the girl was showing students a gun. When the teacher asked the girl about it she took off running.
Security chased her down the hall and then the bell for the passing period rang. When security finally caught up to her, they found a gun in her bag, loaded and cocked, no-safety.
She was running down the hallway during a crowded BHS passing period with a loaded and cocked gun.
Again, this information is just hearsay, but it is a frightening thought.
