Independent Theatre Projects 2007

[Thursday Mar 1.07 ¬ 5:41 PM]

Independent Theatre Projects are premiering their first and only play on this coming Friday and will also be showing it on Saturday night. The play is hosted by Elliot Aglioni, Maddy Trumble, and Evan Troost. All three of them are Berkeley High seniors but the show is obviously designed for all audiences meaning parents are invited as well. The price is only $5 for any Berkeley High student with a valid ID and $10 for any adult. The play will begin at 8:00 PM and is approximately three hours long meaning the end time should be around 11:00 PM not including any aforementioned formalities. I would strongly encourage everybody who reads this to attend if they don’t have any earlier plans because I know Elliot personally and know that he wouldn’t have a hand in a play that is anything short of spectacular. I know I will be going this Saturday and not Friday because of my friend’s lingerie party and all you regular readers should too. Not only will you get to see a great piece of theatre but if you play your cards right you just might be able to meet me. I will be the Asian cat wearing either a brown A’s hat or an Oakland Raiders beanie. On that note I will end this piece with the hope that I have sold some people on going and pleased Elliot for who this article is written for. Oh yeah, and anybody who does attend the play please let me know how you felt about it and maybe we can get a little discussion going on.

Junior Prom Memories...

[Wednesday Feb 28.07 ¬ 3:04 PM]

Junior Prom tickets are set to begin going on sale during Lunch and after school starting on March 2nd. I’m not a junior anymore and writing on this topic is pretty pointless for me, but since I don’t have anything to talk about and I must fill up my internship time I will recall some of my personal story from last year’s junior prom. Junior prom was a great experience for me because I got to kick it with all my friends including the ones I didn’t see very much outside of school. The pre-prom party at Sophie Mariatch’s house was chill and I had a place and a lot of time to get myself in the right set of mind before the actual prom began if you know what I mean. After the pre-prom party I hopped on the party bus with all of my homies and we all headed toward the prom. The ride to the prom was everybody going hella dumb to all the sick Bay-Area music and enjoying themselves. When I say “hella dumb” I mean guys freaking with girls and vice versa and just going extra dummy then usual. Once we got to the prom we had to wait in line for 35 minutes or so which was interrupted by the occasional need to take a leak behind the building. After finally getting in to the prom I headed straight for the dance floor. I promptly spent the rest of prom planting helluv seeds and failing to see one grow past the stage of making out. By the end of prom my mindset was “fuck girls right now I just want to drink.” I kicked it at my boi Seth’s house for the rest of the night and walked home from his house at about 3:00 AM.
What I would like to conclude from telling this story is to let you juniors know that prom is not worth missing out on. It’s not going to be nearly as clean as the senior prom but with good planning and follow through I’m sure you all can make your prom night a very enjoyable one just like I made mine. I would also like to take this time to warn you all not to drink too much and to make sure you keep it real at all times.

Ultimate Frisbee anybody?

[Monday Feb 26.07 ¬ 2:50 PM]

A new sports team gaining more and more popularity by the second is the Berkeley High Ultimate Frisbee team. The team is lead by Co-Captains Jamie Irvine and Jake Hartman-Kenzler. They recently played against a private school team whose name fails to come to mind but was the third ranked team in the state. Although the final score was 15-9 in favor of the other team; Berkeley High gave a valiant effort and showed the passion that seems to be lacking more and more in Berkeley High sports teams. No offense women’s soccer and men and women’s basketball teams. Berkeley High kept the score close until the opposing team pulled away during the last few minutes of the contest. Jamie Irvine played in every minute of the game but one and that was at the fault of a minor injury that he nursed on the sideline. Eli Wilkins-Malloy was seen diving to catch any Frisbee that may have been out of reach or deflecting any Frisbee that he may have been out of position for. Eric Flouders was seen playing through a gash in his knee with increased intensity and passion. “We wanted that game so badly but it just didn’t quite work out. I can’t blame it on our intensity though. I’m very proud of how hard our whole team played against great adversity. If I could blame it on anybody I would blame it on the pussy opponents who kept calling fouls on us when they were non-existent. I guess its back to the drawing board until our next game against Fremont,” sighed Noah Issacs. Noah is referring to the fact that the game was self officiated and therefore fouls are called by the actual players. Many players on the opposing team were calling fouls on Berkeley High players that were not only bogus to the Berkeley High players but to the Berkeley High fans in attendance including me. To conclude my article I would like to encourage more Berkeley High students to check out the Frisbee team or try out if you think you got what it takes. Open tryouts are always happening and it is never too late to try out for the team. If you’re more of a watcher then Frisbee can appeal to you as well. It’s great fun to watch and the Berkeley High players really get your head into the game. I highly recommend at least learning more about them before you make any rash conclusions about the team or more importantly the sport.
